Welcome to Growing Up Around The World!
Do your kids ever ask what it would be like to grow up in another country? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to raise your family somewhere else? Is encouraging world citizenship an important aspect in your child rearing? Are you homeschooling or looking to supplement your child’s school experience with more of a global mindset?
Inspired by the Families Of The World video series, our goal is to create a space for families to share their daily lives with each other. Our kids enjoy learning about what life is like for children growing up in other countries, and we want them to have a deeper understanding of what it means to be human – to know that no matter where you live or what your background, we are all more alike than different.
We would like to be able to see more (and up to date) examples of life in other countries – or even other parts of our own country – and we would love to have your help! When we couldn’t find more current videos in the series, we decided that we would try to find our own.
If you are interested in working together to teach kids all around the world more about each other, and you have access to video camera (or a cell phone), then you have an opportunity to make a big difference in our world. Look over our suggested topics and think of ways that you can show what every day life is like in your country.
We hope to have many examples from as many countries as possible, over time, so don’t feel like you need to represent your entire country. Simply give us a feel for what it is like for your child to grow up in your family and in your town. If we love your video, it might appear on the Growing Up Around The World website and social media outlets!
Feel free to speak your own language in the video, and add voice over in English to narrate your short film. It would be great for the video to be narrated by the children in your family, but not necessary.
We may add an intro and credits, in an effort to create a unified feel to the site. You may also use your real names or choose to use other names to protect your identities since you are sharing the town in which you live.
Some ideas to share in your stories:
- names/pseudonyms and ages of children
- area and country in which you live
- examples of a day in your life – do you go to public or private school? do you homeschool?
- what season is it during your film and how does life differ throughout the year?
- what is the climate like
- what are your favorite activities for play and entertainment
- what is your religion, if you have one
- what are some of the special places to visit near your home
- What are holidays like at your house or in your town?
- How old is your town or city?
- What makes it unique?
- What do the adults in your family do for a living?
If you consider yourselves worldschoolers and would like to make a video about what life is like for you in each of the different places you visit, that is welcomed as well!
We would love to hear from you! Use our contact form for more info.
It is our hope to eventually pay contributors based on page views, up to $50 a video (this is assuming we ever get tons of views and eventually monetize the site). Maybe this could be a small way to contribute to the education efforts of children all over the world. Who knows?
We will be continuing to update this site regularly, so be sure to subscribe to see what new videos we have received!
